This time I want to share my journey to learn how to make 3D sculpting with ZBrush. First of all, I want to tell you that I have zero knowledge or experience in making 3D. Even though I am a designer, most of my works was in 2D space.
So making 3D is a whole new knowledge I want to learn.
The reason I learn 3D (in this case 3D sculpting in ZBrush) is, want to expand my knowledge beyond my current design expertise, and also it was triggered by my hobby in building a plastic model and miniature painting.
So here is my learning attempt with ZBrush.

今回は、ZBrushを使った3Dスカルプティングの学びの過程を共有したいと思います。
まずお伝えしたいのは、私自身3D制作に関する知識や経験が全くないということです。デザイナーとはいえ、これまでの仕事のほとんどは2D空間での作業でした。ですから3D制作は、私が学びたいまったく新しい知識領域です。
私が3D（具体的にはZBrushでの3Dスカルプティング）を学ぶ理由は、現在のデザイン専門知識を超えた知識を広げたいという思いと、プラモデル製作やミニチュア塗装という趣味がきっかけとなっています。
それでは、ZBrushでの私の学習の試みを説明します。
1st attempt : Kayari Buta
This is my 1st attempt. I am made a Kayari Buta. As you can see there is still a lot of rough and uneven surface. Even the shape is misaligned.
これが私の初めての試みです。蚊遣りブタを作りました。
ご覧の通り、まだ表面が粗く凹凸が多く、形も歪んでいます。
Little Dragon
For this time, I was looking for some video tutorial on Youtube and follow the step-by-step tutorial. The video tutorial really helps me to understand the ZBrush tools and how to use it better.
今回はYouTubeで動画チュートリアルを探し、ステップバイステップの手順に従って進めました。この動画チュートリアルは、ZBrushのツールを理解し、より効果的に使う方法を学ぶのに非常に役立ちました。
Tiger Mask
At this point I am already get used to ZBrush and sculpting 3D object. My sculpting is more and more detailed with smooth surface.
For this Tiger mask my source of reference was a photo that you can find on Pinterest, but I made a little modification here and there, to make the expression of the mask looks more fierceful at every angle.
この時点で私はすでにZBrushと3Dオブジェクトの彫刻に慣れています。私の彫刻はますます詳細になり、滑らかな表面を実現しています。
この虎の仮面については、Pinterestで見つけた写真を参考資料としましたが、仮面がどの角度から見てもより獰猛な表情に見えるよう、あちこちで若干の修正を加えました。

Chinese Lion-Dog head
I always fascinated by East asian creatures especially when it was sculpted into wood or metal, by very skillful artist.
So when I looking for my tiger mask reference, the search result also showing the Chinese Lion-Dog sculpture. So I decided to sculpt it in 3D.
This sculpt is still on progress but here is the Work in Progress of Chinese Lion-Dog head.
東アジアの生き物には常に魅了されてきました。特に、熟練の芸術家によって木や金属に彫刻された作品には心を奪われます。
虎の仮面を探す際、検索結果に唐獅子の彫刻も表示されたため、これを3Dで制作することに決めました。
この彫刻はまだ制作中ですが、獅子犬の頭部の制作過程をご説明します。
The sculpt was modified from the reference image to give fiercer looks.
この造形は、より獰猛な印象を与えるため、参照画像から修正を加えたものであります
So that is my small step of learning 3D sculpting in ZBrush. It is still far from perfect, and I will update my sculpt work as I leveling up my skill.

PS：All of my sculpt was made in ZBrush Core Mini, the free version of ZBrush. The Core Mini is a step for me to learn the essential tools inside the ZBrush, before jumping in into the full version of ZBrush.
